Frequently Asked Questions

We specialise in creating precision tubular components and assemblies, made from the tube we manufacture, to your exact specifications. We support a cross section of the New Zealand’s manufacturing sector with tubular components to be incorporated in, or to complete a product offering.

My mild steel carbon tube is starting to show light surface rust

Light surface rust does occur with time, this is perfectly normal but won’t affect the quality of the tube itself. The rust can be easily removed by using a scouring pad and applying a light oil coating afterwards.

What grade is carbon tube?

Standard carbon tube is made from G250 coil material. For automobile roll cages, a specialist grade of steel is used and manufactured to a unique standard. Ask for MSNZ compliance Rollcage Tube if this is what you are sourcing carbon tube for.

What galvanised thickness is on galvanised tube?

Standard galvanised tube is manufactured with Z275 coil, which has a minimum of 275gm2 of zinc. Heavier galvanised coated tube can be manufactured ex mill rolling. Please contact our sales team for more information on order quantity and lead time. They’re always happy to help.

My galvanised tube has white powder on the surface

In damp or moist conditions, a white powder can form on a galvanised surface. This must be cleaned down prior to painting or powdercoating. To help prevent the white powder from appearing, galvanised tube should be stored with spacer between steel surfaces.

What is the standard length of mild steel carbon and galvanised tube?

Industrial Tube’s standard tube length is invoiced at 5.5 metre lengths but, each tube is approximately 50mm longer so customers can trim the cropped ends if required. Special lengths are available ex-rolling. Non-standard cut to length tube is also available with our value-added precision cutting service. Our team can provide this service for you should you require.

What is the standard length of stainless tube?

Industrial Tube’s stainless tube comes in 6 metre lengths. Special lengths are available ex-rolling or within shorter time frames. Our team can also cut-to-length with our value-added precision cutting service. Just let them know if that is what you need.

When can I get specialist lengths run?

Industrial Tube’s standard products are rolled every four to eight weeks. Where possible, we will add specialist lengths to these rolling cycles. If you require a particular length produced, please contact our sales and production team for more information.

What length can tube be milled to?

The shortest length is 4 metres for carbon and stainless. The longest length for carbon is 12 metres, whereas the longest length for stainless is between 8-12 metres, dependent on the diameter. Contact our sales and production team for more information.

What is the finish of Industrial Tube Manufacturing stainless Hygienic tube?

The AS 1528.1 standard allows for as-produced or buff polished external finishes as specified by the customer. Our standard external finish is buff polished to a minimum 320G finish. The internal finish of our tube (excluding the weld zone) is typically 0.2-0.6μm Ra. The internal weld zone roughness allows for a maximum Rt value of 14.0µm as per the standard. Our results typically range from 2.0 – 6.5Rt.

What is erw steel tubing?
